Minesto progress DG100 project with subsystem orders
Minesto is making progress with the development and manufacturing of its first DG100 unit, which will be installed in the Faroe Islands within the scope of Minesto’s collaboration with Faroese utility company SEV.
As reported earlier, Minesto has awarded a contract for design and development of the foundation connection system to Inyanga-Tech, with Quoceant as main sub-supplier.
Minesto has signed a contract for delivery of the wing system for the DG100 unit with the Swedish-based company Elitkomposit, for one full wing system with option for a second order.
The scope of the contract includes tooling hardware, detail design work, FEM (finite element method) analysis and testing. FEM analysis work is performed by Elitkomposit’s sub-supplier FS Dynamics.
The wing will be constructed in carbon fibre with a foam core and measures 5.1x1.7x1.7 meters.
Minesto has issued a purchase order to the UK-based company PPI Engineering for a medium voltage 100 kW generator. The scope includes design, manufacturing and testing of one generator with option for additional units.
In addition to the contracts already signed, Minesto is currently evaluating tenders submitted for the turbine, gear box and electrical servo actuators and expect to place orders on these in the near future.
Minesto plans to open bids for DG100 nacelle composite components next week. Scope includes the nacelle housing itself with an integrated wing pylon, elevators, rudders, end cone as well as some other details.
In addition, Minesto is currently sourcing the DG100 tether cable system, the part that structurally connects the kite to the foundation and carries power and data cables for power transmission and data communication.
Minesto also has launched a tender for onshore control station to be used with the grid-connected DG100 installation in Vestmannasund, Faroe Islands. The Onshore Control Station system is to be divided in three separate sub systems which together will ensure data communication with the DG100 power plant, power conversion and transmission and fulfilment of grid code requirements.
Finally, Minesto is planning submittal of specifications of subsea foundation and export cable early in June. With these completed all the main components for the first DG100 installation are on order.
