Project and technology development

Functionality and power production of the Deep Green technology have been verified in ocean testing. First electricity was produced in 2009 and today Minesto has established projects in Europe and Asia projects to enable the commercial roll-out of the company's unique renewable energy technology.

The first test of the Deep Green technology in an authentic ocean environment was completed by the end of 2011. In 2013, a prototype with a 3-meter wing was deployed in Northern Ireland and that scale has since that been undergoing extensive testing in the tidal streams of Strangford Lough. In 2018, Minesto succesfully commissioned its first commercial-scale system in Holyhead Deep, Wales. With the 0.5MW DG500 device, Minesto could verify functionality, validate offshore operations procedures and generate electricity for the first time with a commercial-scale unit.
